November 2021 Chapter Meeting – Bird Strike Incident
EAA 105 November Meeting & 2022 Board of Directors Election Kick-Off
Thursday, November 11th
Twin Oaks Airpark
in the Breakfast Hangar
Join us for the November chapter meeting on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm. We will gather starting at about 6:30, and the presentation will begin at 7:00. This month, the presentation will cover a cross-country flight being made in April by chapter member Greg Hughes that ended after he and the airplane experienced a bird strike. The presentation will cover the event itself, as well as after-the-fact thoughts and lessons.
The meeting will be held at Twin Oaks Airpark, 12405 SW River Rd, Hillsboro, in the big breakfast hangar/rental office hangar.
In addition, the annual election of directors for the chapter board of directors will kick off at this meeting. We will introduce the slate that has been proposed by the current board and take nominations from the floor. The election will be held electronically in the same manner as last year, to ensure all members have an opportunity to vote whether they can make the meeting this week or not.
See you there!!
NOTE: Due to current the current COVID situation, the chapter board has specified that attendees need to have been fully vaccinated and will need to wear a mask. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Project: 1946 Cessna 120

In summer 2021 the chapter began a project to restore a 1946 Cessna 120. The airplane was donated by long-time chapter member Terry Smith. The airplane has seventy-five years of history in Oregon – more than 20 owners! The goals of the project include making the airplane airworthy, creating an opportunity for fractional ownership, and possibly organizing a flying club that would maintain and fly the airplane. More than 7500 Cessna 120/140s were built in the 1940s. They have a following, there’s a type club, and parts are available. It’s a relatively simple design, inexpensive to maintain, and can provide tailwheel experience. The airplane has been inspected by an A&P/IA and was deemed restorable. Work will take place in the EAA 105 workshop – Twin Oaks, hangar G1 until it’s completed. We estimate 18 months. Restoration will require rebuilding or replacing the Continental C-85-12 motor, recovering the fabric wings, and making some repairs to the airframe. The project depends on volunteer effort and/or donations. For more information about volunteering, ownership, donating or the airplane’s history contact Chris Riedener. For weekly plans and updates – ask to be added to the C-120 forum. Cell/text: 503-754-5605, or email: chris.j.riedener@gmail.com. A photo logbook will be updated as we progress.
