SUMMARY:Chapter Gathering
DESCRIPTION:This Monthly Chapter Gathering will be at the Teen Flight Building\, in the southwest corner of the parking lot on the south side of Hillsboro Airport\, off NE Cornell Rd. \nPlease join us to see the teens’ progress in assembling an RV-12. The TeenFlight program includes a group of volunteer mentors led by Dick VanGrunsven to guide teens through the learning process of reading plans and using tools common to aircraft construction. This is the 9th RV-12 built by this Portland area TeenFlight program. \nTeens are between 14 and 19\, and it takes approximately 1.5 to 2 years during the school year\, every Saturday for 6 hours\, to build the airplane.  There is a formal application process with a new class starting in the fall. Anyone interested\, please send an email to Aron Faegre (faegre at earthlink dot net)\, who manages the class\, and he will respond with more information. \n \nChapter Gatherings – are typically on the second Thursday of every month\, 6:30 pm\, usually at the EAA 105 Hangar (G1) at Twin Oaks Airpark\, although sometimes at other venues. SUMMARY:Chapter Gathering
DESCRIPTION:At this week’s Gathering  Jerry VanGrunsven will share photos and experiences he had flying helicopters – mostly the  Kaman HH-43B Huskie.  This was a unique machine that used two counter-rotating\, intermeshing rotors.  Jerry learned to fly helicopters while serving in the Air Force in the 1960s.  Perhaps not as recognizable as the Huey\, the Huskie\, call sign “Pedro” was used for search and rescue.  After the Vietnam war surplus Huskies were used for forestry\, and fire suppression.  Most of Jerry’s missions took place in remote parts of southeast Asia\, the desert Southwest\, and the Pacific Northwest. These are places where few people could appreciate the machine’s utility.  Jerry always carried a camera and documented many of his adventures. \nChapter Gatherings – are typically on the second Thursday of every month\, 6:30 pm\, usually at the EAA 105 Hangar (G1) at Twin Oaks Airpark\, although sometimes at other venues. We’ll have some food (small donation requested) and socialize from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.  The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. with the EAA Monthly video\, followed by a special program.  Upcoming programs TBD. \nWe are looking for volunteers to help organize or present at future meetings.  You can discuss your build project\, do a presentation\, invite a speaker\, show a movie\, or organize a field trip. We made a lot of progress and it has provided some wonderful learning experiences. Chris will give a behind the scenes look at the work that has been completed including: airframe\, fabric wings\, and the engine (C85-12) overhaul. \nChris is currently trying to find an owner or a group of owners for the project. There is a fair amount of interest in seeing the project completed\, and a flying club formed. Chris will discuss the possibilities. \nAlso\, Benton is planning to do the long-awaited chili and/or soup dinner.  Crock pots at the ready.
