SUMMARY:Chapter Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Ron Wanttaja will present his experience with the Link Trainer. \nAs a young Civil Air Patrol cadet in the ’70s\, he led a team of fellow cadets that resurrected a WWII-model Link Trainer.  The below page from his presentation explains how he got involve. \nIn 1928\, Ed Link invented the first (semi-) accurate flight simulator.  This is all the more amazing when you realize what Ed Link DIDN’T have:  No computers\, no microprocessors\, no electronic memory\, nothing more than electric motors and vacuum tubes. \nOur presentation this month is not a “history” of the Link trainer.  It’s an in-depth explanation of how Link made it work. \nHundreds of thousands of pilots used Link Trainers during WWII…including the Germans who bombed London\, and the Japanese who attacked Pearl Harbor! \n \n\nChapter Gatherings – are typically on the second Thursday of every month\, 6:30 pm\, usually at the EAA 105 Hangar (G1) at Twin Oaks Airpark\, although sometimes at other venues. We have some food (small donation requested) and socialize from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. with the EAA Monthly video\, followed by a special program. Upcoming programs TBD. \nWe are looking for volunteers to help organize or present at future meetings. You can discuss your build project\, do a presentation\, invite a speaker\, show a movie\, or organize a field trip. Contact Rion Bourgeois with your idea for a chapter meeting.

SUMMARY:CANCELED - 2025 Block Party at HIO Airport!
DESCRIPTION:We are sorry to inform you that the 26th Annual Block Party at the Hillsboro Airport is CANCELED! \n  \nDear EAA105 Community\, \nA short update on this weekend’s Hillsboro Airport Block Party. \nThe Port of Portland has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Hillsboro Airport Block Party. This decision comes in response to increased federal activity in the Portland area and around Hillsboro Airport (HIO)\, and reflects the Port’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. While this year’s event won’t take place\, the Port’s commitment to the EAA flight community remains stronger than ever. This community thrives on connection\, shared passion\, and the joy of aviation—and we’re already looking ahead to next year’s Block Party with excitement. With over 2\,000 RSVPs this year\, it’s clear how much the community values what you’ve built together. \nWe at the EAA want to take a moment to recognize and thank the incredible volunteers who have poured their time\, energy\, and heart into this event. Your creativity\, dedication\, and community spirit are what make this event\, and all of the other events that we organize so special. From planning logistics to building comradery in the flying community\, your efforts have not gone unnoticed. You are the heart of our organization\, and we are deeply grateful. \nWe\, at the chapter\,  will have lots more opportunities to build connections upcoming. Though our kids programs\, fly outs\, pancake breakfasts\, and other events can’t wait to celebrate with you again soon. Pay attention to our Calendar for all of the upcoming opportunities at https://eaa105.org/calendar/ \nFeel free to join us tonight at the monthly chapter gathering! \nThanks; \nEAA 105’s block party planning committee.
