When flying in and out of Twin Oaks, please be aware of several airspaces and frequencies.
- There is a Class E surface extension from the KHIO Class D airspace to the southeast for arriving traffic into RWY 31L. This “landing corridor” area does not show on some flight planning app’s abbreviated charts. Flying straight out from Twin Oaks RWY 02 leads directly into the KHIO straight-in RWY 31L landing corridor.
- It is advisable to monitor KHIO Tower on 119.3 when flying in and out of Twin Oaks Airpark.
- Twin Oaks website suggests “If making a right turn-out from runway 02 to the East, please contact KHIO tower prior to encroaching on the KHIO 31L straight-in landing corridor. Otherwise make left traffic and depart to the East off the left downwind.“
Class E airspace normally begins at 1,200 feet AGL and extends upward. The magenta dashed line brings it to the surface. There are no entry restrictions for VFR into Class E. You can fly VFR there without talking to ATC, however, per the request on Twin Oaks website KHIO Tower would like to hear from you.
