The 1946 Cessna 120 that was donated to the chapter in 2021 is now privately owned but it will continue to be a project in hangar G1 into 2025. Private ownership is a major milestone for the project. This could be the first step towards some sort of group ownership.
We put a lot of effort into the motor, wings and various parts. The project photo album shows the work that has gone into the various assemblies. The new owner, Chris Crewdson, hopes to learn from other EAA members and the local community. He is prepared to purchase the necessary parts. And, he is open to shared ownership.
The airframe is sound and it has an airworthiness certificate. Registration will be transferred to Chris. Most of the paint was removed from the airframe. The main gear legs were stripped and painted with epoxy primer. Many parts, e.g. the controls, peddles, main and tail wheels, were refurbished.
The wings were completed in 2023 using the Stewarts fabric system, up through the UV/primer coats. They are ready for the final color coat. The wing restoration was supervised by an A&P/IA. The A&P completed an FAA form 337 and a logbook entry.
The motor was completely overhauled in January 2024 using yellow tagged and/or new parts. Four new Millennium cylinder assemblies and all new hardware were used. The starter pinion was modified for a lightweight starter. The motor was overhauled by an experienced A&P/IA. The A&P completed a 337 and a logbook entry.
