Monthly Chapter Meeting Report

The June 12, 2025  monthly chapter meeting was a presentation by Bruce Rose on his Double Eagle LSA.  Bruce was chapter president from 2012-2016.  This is one of several unique aircraft that Bruce has owned or built.  He previously owned a one-off aluminum single seater known as the KK1 built by Ken Scott and Ken Krueger as an exploration of building techniques that were incorporated in the RV-12 design.  He also has owned a Jabiru J250 and currently owns an Earthstar Odyssey as well as the Double Eagle.  He was also involved in the five DeHavilland DH2 pusher biplanes started by EAA Chapter 292 in Independence.  They finished and flew one before selling all five projects to a group in New Zealand.

Bruce had learned of the Double Eagle design and purchased a set of plans.  He became aware that the original prototype built by the designer Leonard Milholland was up for sale.  He went down to Texas to examine it,  and eventually purchased it and trucked it back to Twin Oaks.  Details on the aircraft can be found at https://legaleagleairplane.com/double-eagle/ It is a tube and fabric two seater powered by a VW engine of 60 hp.   Empty weight is 385 lbs with gross weight of 900 pounds and 515 pounds useful load.  The wingspan is 28’3’, lengths is 18’.  It is a cool aircraft.  Bruce is exploring a joint ownership arrangement if you are interested.

The July 10, 2025 chapter meeting program will be a virtual presentation by Dave Kissick of his Cozy MK-4 pusher canard projects.   I have a vague recollection of a meeting to look at a composite Lancair way back in the day, but I don’t recall a meeting involving a canard project.  This will be an opportunity to learn about both the canard design as well as composite construction. The meeting will be held in the chapter hangar G1 at Twin Oaks.  Supper will be at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting to start at 7:00 p.m. It will also be your opportunity to check out the new chapter picnic tables built by the chapter hangar gang. Be there or be square.
