Ron Wanttaja will present his experience with the Link Trainer.
As a young Civil Air Patrol cadet in the ’70s, he led a team of fellow cadets that resurrected a WWII-model Link Trainer. The below page from his presentation explains how he got involve.
In 1928, Ed Link invented the first (semi-) accurate flight simulator. This is all the more amazing when you realize what Ed Link DIDN’T have: No computers, no microprocessors, no electronic memory, nothing more than electric motors and vacuum tubes.
Our presentation this month is not a “history” of the Link trainer. It’s an in-depth explanation of how Link made it work.
Hundreds of thousands of pilots used Link Trainers during WWII…including the Germans who bombed London, and the Japanese who attacked Pearl Harbor!

Chapter Gatherings – are typically on the second Thursday of every month, 6:30 pm, usually at the EAA 105 Hangar (G1) at Twin Oaks Airpark, although sometimes at other venues. We have some food (small donation requested) and socialize from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. with the EAA Monthly video, followed by a special program. Upcoming programs TBD.
We are looking for volunteers to help organize or present at future meetings. You can discuss your build project, do a presentation, invite a speaker, show a movie, or organize a field trip. Contact Rion Bourgeois with your idea for a chapter meeting.
