2023 Young Eagles Report

by Cliff Gerber

Today we ended another great season of flying Young Eagles during the First Saturday of the month Pancake Breakfasts of June, July, August, and September. The statistics are interesting. Today we flew 18 kids with 10 pilots. The event ran relatively smoothly with our now-experienced ground crew. Having 10 pilots made it easy to give a flight to everyone who wanted one. The registration process for parents can be challenging as is managing a kid’s schedule.

Today’s stats:
15 kids originally signed up
7 canceled, leaving 8 still signed up.
11 kids were on a waitlist, 6 of which did not show up, leaving 5 who did show up.
5 kids walked up on the day of the fight.
Equalling a total of 18 kids flown today.

All in all, I think limiting our events to 15 with 5 on the waitlist seems to work. Some cancel, some don’t show up and some walk up. The ground crew manages it all and we have a good time!

Totals for the year:
May – 12 Girl scouts
June – 16
July – 33 (a crazy day with an over registration mix up)
August – 22
September – 18
Total – 101 kids flown from our chapter hangar.

More were flown individually. I flew 6 from my home at Sunset Airstrip (1OR3)

So, a big Thank You to all of you pilots and ground crew who made all this possible.
