Starting next Monday, July 10th the South Residential Airpark is starting a taxiway refurbishment project. While all the pavement work is being done within the airpark, there will be an impact to airport operations during the first week of the project.
Between Monday July 10th and up to Friday July 14th, the parallel taxiway (State Taxiway Alpha) will be closed from 8AM – 6PM from just North of the taxiway Alpha 2 that exits to the main ramp to just short of the run-up pad for Runway16. There will be large construction trucks running on the closed section of taxiway Alpha. See attached map of the project during the first week.
The repaving project during the first week will impact Cadet, Skyhawk and Skylane taxiways on the airpark, as well as access to the airport from Cherokee and the State taxiway for the hangars just North of Cherokee. Access to some hangars on State property will be limited in the closed off areas.
During the closure aircraft landing Runway 34 that roll past the first runway exit, will need to back-taxi on the runway to exit on Alpha 2 to the main ramp. Aircraft departing Runway 16 will need to back-taxi the runway from Alpha 2 down to the 16 run-up pad. Please use extreme caution watching for aircraft taxiing on the runway and give the aircraft ahead in the pattern plenty of room. Clearly announce all intentions on 122.975 and be prepared to use the Go-Around Option!
As with many FAA NOTAMS we will be getting a lot of pilots flying in that are unaware of the taxiway closure. The plan is to have someone on the radio advising pilots of the closure. This person may be recommending options for pilots to take if there is a perceived conflict, but will in no means act as any official air traffic control. The pilot is responsible for the operation of their aircraft.
The second week of the paving project from July 17th – 21st will only impact taxiways within the South end of the airpark, no airport operations impact is anticipated.
Also note ramp parking might be limited as some Airpark residents may be parking their planes on the ramp during the project.
